2002 Rivergate Shiraz This wine shows typically spicy Shiraz characters, fine dry tannins and intense colour. The growing season for this wine was much cooler than is normally experienced in this area. Hence the wine is more in the style of a Shiraz from a cool climate. $22 per bottle / $250 case 2003 Rivergate Shiraz This huge flavoured wine has concentrated complex characters and is smooth on the palate. This wine top scored at a benchmark tasting of 2003 Shiraz wines conducted by the Bendigo Winegrowers' Association. Noted wine show judge, Gary Baldwin, scored this wine at Gold Medal standard. His comments: "Good dark red colour, sweet confectionary fruit, cherry with hint of blackberry jam, clean tight palate, very bright fruit with some oak structure at finish. $22 per bottle / $250 case 2003 Rivergate RESERVE Shiraz Two barrels of the 2003 vintage were selected and matured for another 12 months in old French oak to produce this quality Reserve. This very popular wine sells quickly but some is still available. $35 per bottle / $400 case 2004 Rivergate Shiraz This wine displays big fruit flavours, fine tannins and is smooth and powerful. Respected wine critic and vigneron, James Halliday, gave this wine a 93 rating. His comments: "A mix of ripe blackberry, plum and cherry fruit; the tannin support is strong, but in balance; just needs time."
